Walking down the cobbled streets of Cuenca, I was struck by the sun-stained, worn façades of the city streetscape. Much of the city has been repaved and rebuilt in an effort to attract tourists. Despite these efforts, many of the old walls and doors of Cuenca remain. They tell a tale of an older, distant city. They talk of past owners, old guests, and robbers kept away. They talk of a city in transition and whisper of a past which cannot let go. They speak with bright colors and strong exteriors. And, despite the change surrounding them, they still stand their ground. View the series of photographs.
